The rise of polar fleece is rooted in its revolutionary fabric performance.
Extreme warmth, yet lightweight and breathable: Its thermal insulation is twice that of merino wool and four times that of cotton, yet it is 40% lighter than wool. Additionally, it offers excellent breathability, quickly wicking away sweat during exercise to keep the body dry and comfortable.
Naturally quick-drying, unaffected by moisture: One of polar fleece's greatest advantages is its strong hydrophobicity. When saturated, it absorbs only 1% of its own weight in water, meaning it can dry within minutes. Whether for outdoor sports or daily commuting in rain or snow, this offers a significant advantage over down jackets and wool, which are hard to match in this regard.
Durable and easy to care for – a blessing for the lazy: Unlike delicate wool, polar fleece is abrasion-resistant, wrinkle-resistant, and, most importantly, machine-washable. It dries quickly after washing, greatly reducing daily maintenance costs.
Thanks to these outstanding properties, polar fleece was adopted by brands like Patagonia for professional outdoor use as early as the 1980s, and was named one of the "100 Greatest Inventions of the 20th Century" by TIME magazine.
